Troop 111 had a successful and fun canoe trip in August. Our original plan was to cover 12 miles of the Potomac River. Thanks to a breezy headwind and a few other factors, we stopped at the Point of Rocks landing after covering 6 miles (although some of us zigzagged enough to paddle closer to 7), which helped make it a great, relaxing trip. The river was beautiful, and the water was perfect for staying cool. Some of the OG’s caught fish, and some of the boys caught a glimpse of a water snake. We stopped on a rock island for lunch, and the Troop cleaned up some trash along the way.

Troop 111’s summer camp this year was amazing. We had a great time all week. Our boys and several provisional camper friends enjoyed attending merit badge classes, hanging out (literally) in our campsite, and participating in troop activities around Camp Shenandoah. We reserved the Aquatics site for an evening of canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding.
Troop 111 took first place in both the Terrapalooza Games competition and the overall Camp Shenandoah Olympics for the week. We also performed a service project for the camp by cleaning the shower facility. The troop was happy to welcome several family members who came out on Friday night for the final campfire program.
One of the highlights of camp this year was our Thursday night camp cookout…according to the boys, their dinner (smoked pork barbeque, mac n’ cheese, and ice cream) was finally better than the leaders’ meal!
