2016 Canoe Trip Report

Troop 111 had a successful and fun canoe trip in August.  Our original plan was to cover 12 miles of the Potomac River.  Thanks to a breezy headwind and a few other factors, we stopped at the Point of Rocks landing after covering 6 miles (although some of us zigzagged enough to paddle closer to 7), which helped make it a great, relaxing trip.  The river was beautiful, and the water was perfect for staying cool.  Some of the OG’s caught fish, and some of the boys caught a glimpse of a water snake.  We stopped on a rock island for lunch, and the Troop cleaned up some trash along the way.

Summer Meeting Schedule

Beginning Tuesday, June 7th, Troop 111 meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings at Sutherland Middle School from 6:30 – 8:00PM.

Summer Camp 2015 – Base Camp Ottari

Update: Camp has been moved to Camp Shenandoah.

The troop has decided to attend Blue Ridge Mountain Council Camp Ottari July 19-25 this summer. Base camp fee is around $310 for Scouts; $175 for Leaders. 2015 fees are being set now. Ages 12 and up weighing between 100-300 pounds can ride the 800′ zip line for $5 for two rides. Some programs and merit badges have additional fees.

More details will be coming. $100 per scout and adult deposit is due in mid-January; another $100 per Scout and $75 per Leader is due mid-March, balance due mid-May. Merit Badge selections will be in April.

On June 15-21 Troop 111 will go to Virginia Beach and camp at First Landing State Park.  Highlights of the trip include visits to the Nauticus Maritime Museum, battleship USS Wisconsin, and Warbirds Aircraft Museum.  We can take a maximum of 18 Scouts and 6 adults.  Cost is $95 for Scouts and $100 for adults.  Permission slips will be available at the Troop meeting on Tuesday May 6th.  While money will not be required until Tuesday May 20th, please respond with a firm commitment to Joe Hoeing by Saturday May 10th so that we can reserve the right size group campsite. Star scouts and above have the option to use their personal tent.
